The Volkswagen Atlas, which seats seven, is getting a sibling.

The all-new Atlas, which is designed to seat five passengers, will be manufactured at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga factory. Sharing the same award-winning MQB platform as the seven-seater, the five-passenger seating Atlas will make its world debut at the 2018 New York International Auto Show.

Just like the larger Atlas, the new Atlas concept is designed to fulfill the demands of the American market.

“The Atlas has built strong momentum for Volkswagen in the SUV segment, and we are excited to grow our SUV portfolio with this new, Chattanooga-assembled five-passenger SUV,” said Hinrich J. Woebcken, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. “We are not only committed to this market, we are committed to our U.S. manufacturing home in Chattanooga, Tennessee.”

This is the third model to call the Chattanooga factory home, joining the Passat and original Atlas.

“The new five-passenger version of the Atlas will share a substantial number of components but will feature different styling than the larger three-row, seven-seat crossover that went on sale just under a year ago in the U.S. Its name is to be announced at the New York show,” reports Automotive News Writer Larry P. Vellequette.
