Volt drivers log half a billion electric miles.
The Chevy Volt is still relatively new, having launched near the end of 2010, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t gotten a lot accomplished over the last three and a half years. In fact, the Volt just reached an incredibly significant milestone: half a billion electric miles.
That’s not all that the Volt has to celebrate, however. Chevrolet is also reporting that, in a study involving 300 Volts in California in service for over 30 months, many Volt drivers are exceeding the 35-mile all-electric range per full charge. In fact, 15 percent regularly surpass 40 miles per charge.
“The fact that most of the folks who purchased the Volt at launch are still enjoying EV range performance on target with when they took delivery is testament to the attention to detail our team paid to delivering on our promise of most people driving all electrically most of the time,” said Pam Fletcher, Chevrolet Volt executive chief engineer.
Chevy threw out some other fun numbers for the Volt as well:
- More than 63 percent of Volt driving is in EV mode.
- Volt owners who charge regularly usually drive over 970 miles between fill-ups at the gas station.
- These drivers go to the gas station less than once a month.
- The 2014 Volt gets an EPA-estimated 98 MPGe, and 35 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway on gasoline power.
- This amounts to an average savings of $1,450 a year for Volt drivers.
- More than 81 percent of trips (between July and December 2013) in Volts were completed without the gasoline-powered generator, according to an independent study.
- Since its launch, the Volt has helped reduce gasoline consumption by over 25 million gallons.
- A whopping 69 percent of Volt buyers are new to GM, most frequently trading in a Prius.
