Volvo at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show: Some Cars, and a Comfy Lounge
While most automakers at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show paraded around fancy concepts and new models, Volvo held strong to its new principle of concentrating less on auto shows and more on online sales. Nonetheless, the Swedish automaker still had a presence at CAS, although it was a touch less exciting than its competitors.
First off and most excitingly, Volvo had the S60 Cross Country (the world’s first ever crossover sedan) on display. The unique vehicle made its debut last month at the Detroit Auto Show. With an increased ride height of 2.5 inches over its non-crossover S60 sibling, the S60 Cross Country would work well for those who prefer the sleek look of a sedan but need something a bit more off-road capable.
Production vehicles on display included the S60/V60 Polestar, S60, S80, XC60, and XC70. Volvo also brought a few additional newcomers along with it to the Windy City—the S60 Inception, XC90, and XC90 Hybrid. The XC90 models have been completely redesigned for the 2015 model year, and the gasoline and hybrid variants certainly wowed auto show-goers.
Lastly, and possibly most importantly, Volvo provided a comfortable lounge in which auto journalists could rest their weary feet after a hectic day of press conferences, free swag, and whiskey tastings. We even recognized some of the décor from our neighborhood IKEA—now that’s national loyalty for you!
