Volvo has revealed that its new V90 Wagon and S90 sedan will be offered with a new Polestar performance package that can increase horsepower and torque

The new Polestar Performance Optimisation package will increase the capabilities of the S90 and V90

In 2015, Volvo acquired Polestar Performance to be its in-house tuning badge, and the Swedish automaker was quickly rewarded with a new performance package for its XC90 SUV, which improved both the horsepower and torque of Volvo’s best-selling vehicle. Now, that performance package is coming to the new S90 sedan and V90 wagon.

This new package will be available for vehicles with Volvo’s Drive-E four-cylinder engines, which can be found across the top-level 90 range. The performance package does more than just improve engine performance; it upgrades the entire drivetrain. Everything from quicker throttle responses to faster transmission shifts are upgrades that are implemented with the new package.

The first Volvos that will be eligible for this upgrade are European S90 and V90 models equipped with the D5 diesel engine, but S90 and V90 variants fitted with the gasoline T6 engine will be eligible for the upgrade this October. Volvo has yet to release precise details about how much the performance package will improve engine output. However, when this same package was used for the XC90 T6, there was an increase of 14 horsepower and 30 lb-ft of torque.

Volvo says the performance package will not affect the vehicle’s warranty, fuel consumption rate, or alter the amount of emissions the vehicle produces.

The new performance package, officially referred to as Polestar Performance Optimization, was created with the help of the racecar drivers and engineers of Polestar Cyan Racing.

“It is exciting to take the technology we use in our race cars and apply that to Volvo’s road cars,” said Thed Björk, who drives a Volvo S60 Polestar TC1 with Drive-E technology in the FIA World Touring Car Championship. “We have created a balanced package that provides performance in all conditions, whether you are winning a race or driving actively on your favorite roads.”

Volvo has yet to announce whether its new performance package will be available in the United States.
