We’re less than weeks away from the start of the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, and Volvo has already tipped a bit of its hand by revealing the V60 Cross Country, which takes the automaker’s popular sportswagon and turns it into a fetching little crossover.

“We are delighted to add the third true Cross Country model to our product portfolio. The successful combination of dynamic styling and rugged capability places the V60 Cross Country in a class of its own,” said Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Product Strategy and Vehicle Line Management at Volvo Cars.

Called a “getaway car” by Kerssemakers, the V60 Cross Country boasts a ride height that’s increased by 65mm, the choice of 18- or 19-inch wheels, front and rear skid plates, side scuff plates, and fender extenders.

On the inside, the V60 Cross Country will feature black leather seating with brown contrast stitching available at US/Canadian launch and two-tone leather available when the V60 CC hits European markets.

Surprisingly enough, Volvo intends to bring the V60 Cross Country to America and Canada before launching it in rising markets like Sweden and China, but this could be construed as a vote of confidence in the American consumer.

Volvo says that the V60 Cross Country will launch with the five-cylinder, 250-horsepower engine and an AWD platform. Drive-E four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines will be available globally for the FWD version, although there is no confirmation as to whether the Drive-E powertrains will make the trek to North America.
