Ford held its SYNC® AppLink™ Developer Challenge in Tel Aviv earlier this week, and of the more than 150 app developers to contribute, the team behind “Wake Me App” was chosen as the winner.

“Wake Me App,” developed by Pavel Kaminski and Shay Mishali, monitors drivers for signs of drowsiness and uses alerts of varying degrees to return their focus to the task at hand, including chimes, adjusting the radio volume, and even sending automated SMS messages and phone calls to the driver’s contacts.

“Tel Aviv has an amazing base of tech developers, and the talent and creativity we saw from the participating teams has been remarkable,” said Scott Lyons, business    and partner development, Connected Vehicle and Services, Ford of Europe.  “Wake Me App stood out because of its innovative use of the new SYNC AppLink developer tools that leverage vehicle information to create dynamic apps in the car.”

For the app, Kaminski and Mishali earned a 2016 Ford Fiesta, a cash prize of NIS 75,000 (approximately $19,388 USD), $7,500 USD in services from WeiserMazers LLP, and the possibility that it will be offered to drivers with SYNC 3-equipped vehicles.

The second place winner was Red Alert, an app that alerts Israeli drivers to potential national security threats, and third place was Karpoolz, a multi-family carpooling app that manages extracurricular activities.
