Chevrolet really does seem to be a major player in the zero-emissions game, as its newest entry, the all-electric Bolt EV, is following its predecessor, the Volt plug-in hybrid, in awards. Specifically, the Bolt’s propulsion system has been named to the WardsAuto 10 Best Engines List.

Big Brother: Meet Chevy’s larger electrified vehicle, the plug-in hybrid Volt

According to WardsAuto senior content director Drew Winter, part of the reason for this is its innovation. “The Chevrolet Bolt EV is an affordable, world-changing vehicle that delivers on the promise of an electric car for the masses,” he said. “It is quick and smartly designed and its official range of 238 miles makes it attractive to a wider audience.”

Of course, that wasn’t all. Winter also mentioned the Bolt’s driving dynamics, citing its 266 lb-ft of torque that give the little crossover “thrilling acceleration, which makes it fun to drive every day.”

Good to Know: What do you know about your tires, really?

The fact that the Bolt EV’s powertrain is on the 10 Best Engines list proves excellence in a few areas, as Wards editors score vehicles on horsepower (the Bolt delivers 200 hp), technology (the Bolt’s powertrain is cutting-edge, and can even recharge slightly with regenerative brakes), fuel economy (the Bolt delivers 238 miles of electric range), relative competitiveness (very few competitors), and noise characteristics (very low noise).

General Motors’ electric vehicle developers, of course, are elated at the news. Tim Grewe, general director for GM Global Electrification programs, said, “The WardsAuto 10 Best recognition of the Bolt EV propulsion system is an accolade for the entire team behind its design, engineering and manufacturing. Chevrolet committed to offering the world’s first affordable, long-range EV and delivered. More than 20,000 Bolt EV owners are already benefiting from great range and performance thanks to its state-of-the-art battery and electric motor technology.”
