Why Wasn’t the 2016 Cadillac ELR at the LA Auto Show?

This year’s Los Angeles Auto Show saw a lot of big unveilings (and a lunch from Mitsubishi), but there was a strange absence that we weren’t expecting: the new Cadillac ELR. So why wasn’t the 2016 Cadillac ELR at the LA Auto Show? We certainly expected that it would be, and so did everyone else. The car was on the freaking LA Auto Show webpage, for cryin’ out loud. You know, until a week before, that is, when it was mysteriously deleted.
According to GM Inside News, inside sources at Cadillac reported that the delay in the debut was due to “system integration difficulties.” Yes, that sounds vague, but we promise, it’s a good thing in the long run. Reportedly, the 2016 ELR will be a “highly autonomous vehicle,” and Caddy is still working out all the bugs before showing it off. So we may have to wait a bit longer to see the ELR, but it sounds like it’s going to have some impressive technology that has been a long time coming. (It’s very possible that the ELR 2.0, as it’s being called, will even get Cadillac’s Super Cruise technology.)
So when and where will the new ELR debut? No clue, though we are hoping for Detroit next month. The 2016 Chevrolet Volt, with which the ELR shares a platform, will be making its debut there at the North American International Auto Show (and we also originally expected that one in LA). It would kind of make sense for the 2016 ELR to follow suit.
