[WATCH] Face-Melting Toyota Prius Video Shows Off New Hybrid

At the beginning of September, Toyota unveiled the fourth-generation Prius to a handful of lucky journalists at an event in Las Vegas. It was a step away from the typical theatrics that accompany vehicle unveilings at auto shows, but Toyota wanted to keep it quiet this time.

Luckily for those of us who weren’t in attendance, this face-meltingly awesome video was also released to help introduce the world to the new Prius:

In the video, we see the 2016 Prius driving around an unnamed city, flaunting its new sporty styling. We’re treated to close-ups of its slanted taillights, swish new interior, shiny red paint job, and hybrid badging.

Now the reason for the face melting: in the video, the Prius is able to play with gravity, so when you think it’s driving on a normal road, the view changes and you see that the road is on top of the city, which is facing sideways. In another scene, two Prii drive at opposite angles to each other—one during the day, and one at nighttime. Planes fly vertically into the sky while people dance to dramatic music.

Unfortunately, the Prius will not be able to bend gravity, but the video shows that designers decided to think outside the box when creating the all-new Prius. Its floating roof, streamlined shape, and aggressive design are a step forward from the old design, which often felt like a refrigerator on wheels.

The 2016 Prius should be available for purchase in the first quarter of 2016.
