Paul Scheer in the rideshare comedy DriveShare

If something enters the cultural zeitgeist and is embraced by Millennials, it’s only a matter of time before some studio makes a high-concept show centered on said concept. It’s all part of Hollywood’s proud tradition of pandering to America’s youth, which runs the gamut from the Twitter-spawned $#*! My Dad Says sitcom to the Facebook-based horror film Unfriended.

And hey, you know what else is pretty popular right now? Ridesharing apps like Lyft and Uber! How about a show series on that?

That seems to be the reasoning behind the not-so-cleverly-named Drive Share, which appears to be a sketch comedy show based on the premise of wacky drivers interacting with passengers of equal or greater wackiness.

While some of these skits look a bit hacky, it should be noted that the show was created by Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel, who are pretty genuinely funny. And the series also features appearances by a whole host of comedy darlings, including Andy Daly (Comedy Central’s Review), Natasha Leggero (Comedy Central’s Another Period), and Scott Aukerman (Comedy Bang-Bang).

The comedic scenarios themselves also show promise, ranging from Daly as a wasted passenger to more ambitious ideas, like a Mad Max: Fury Road parody (something we here at The News Wheel have a well-known weakness for).

Drive Share will premiere on January 30th on Verizon’s go90 network, so if you’re one of the roughly 15 or so people who actually has that streaming service, please watch the show and tell us if it’s any good.
