What Is the Most Powerful 2018 Sports Car Under $40,000?
Owning a sports car is a right of passage for many car enthusiasts, looking for the strongest, most thrilling ride on the market. The downside is that sports cars tend to be on the pricier side of the spectrum, with many models exceeding the $100,000 mark. Fortunately, there are several automakers that offer affordable, yet powerful sports car options. We put together a side-by-side comparison of the five most powerful sports cars priced under $40,000.
The contenders on this list are probably no surprise to most car enthusiasts, with nameplates like the Camaro and Mustang stretching back for decades. The 2018 Ford Mustang has the lowest overall price on this list at $35,190 for its 460-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 engine. However, the 2018 Dodge Challenger and the 2018 Dodge Charger are equally matched for first place, each priced at $39,995 with a 485-horsepower 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine. The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro isn’t far behind the Mustang with a 455-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 priced at $37,995.
A more surprising model in the running is the Kia Stinger. Technically considered a sport sedan, the 2018 Kia Stinger has been making headlines with its string of accolades over the last year, including a top spot on Ward’s 10 Best Engines list.
It’s important to note that several of these models offer even larger, stronger engines on upper trim levels. The Dodge Demon, the range-topping trim on the Challenger, sports an incredible 808-horsepower 6.2-liter Supercharged V8 (it also broke records with the first wheelie ever from a production car). However, we didn’t include those trims on this list because their pricing exceeded $40,000.
