hyundai i20 indiaThe re-introduction of the premium hatchback, Hyundai i20, in India is an evidence of the surging popularity that the South Korean company has gained. The car was first introduced in India back in 2008. Since then, the vehicle has become a household name. The i20 new model 2017 is presently available in both petrol and diesel options, and the same is carried over to the latest model as well.

The facelifted version of the Hyundai i20 was launched at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo and competes against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Honda Jazz. The hatchback gets a lot of new features and some new stylish exterior design.

Exterior

The all-new Hyundai i20 gets a revised design language, which comes with the signature cascading grille, refreshed bumper, arrowhead fog lamps, and projector headlamps with LED running lights.

The side profile of the car looks similar to the previous model. The roofline and design make it more appealing to the eye, especially the contrasting color tone. Moreover, the renovated tail lamp cluster, newly designed bumper which contains black plastic cladding and reflectors on each side call attention. Even the boot lid of the car is designed as per the modern styling language. The number plate has moved upwards and has been placed on the tailgate, as opposed to the previous model which had it on the rear bumper.

Interior

Hyundai made some minor changes in the interior of the 2018 i20. It has a larger touchscreen infotainment system than the previous one at 7 inches and also has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Other changes include the addition of rear AC vents and the sliding front center armrest.hyundai i20 india

Apart from this, everything else seems to be similar to the previous year’s model, like the 3-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls.

Powerplant

As for the engine, the 2018 Hyundai i20 has a 1.2-liter petrol and 1.4-liter diesel engine on offer. The petrol model can churn out a maximum of 83 bhp power and also a 115 Nm of peak torque. The diesel variant produces a peak power of 89 bhp and a humongous 219 Nm of torque. The hatchback comes mated to five-speed and six-speed manual transmissions as standard on the petrol and diesel. An automatic gearbox will also be added to the line up in May 2018.

Additional Features

As for the safety features, the 2018 Hyundai i20 has an anti-lock braking system, which is typically a standard feature in its price range. The base model includes dual airbags, whereas the top-spec model comes loaded with six airbags, which is truly amazing in its price range. The car features Isofix child seat mounts and a reverse parking camera as well on the top models.

The new Hyundai i20 has been given a starting price of Rs 5.34 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Though the hatch is not a complete remake of the outgoing version, the changes are very much noticeable at first glance.
