The Google Street View image that helped bust Donald Ryding

We’ve all done it—traveled around our neighborhoods (or places we wish we could go) on Google Street View. There are plenty of pranksters who lie in wait for the Google car to come around before doing something hilarious (or incredibly dumb) that’ll forever be captured on the interwebs. But apparently, there are also those who get caught by their wives sneaking cigarettes in their driveways after they swore they had quit.

This is exactly what happened to Donald Ryding from Merseyside, UK. After his doctor advised him to quit smoking in addition to other lifestyle changes to improve his health, he told his wife Julie that he had kicked the habit to the curb for good. And she believed him—until she was innocently looking at the Google Street View of her own street and noticed her husband in the driveway, smoking a cigarette.

“I couldn’t believe it – there was no denying it now we’d seen him smoking,” Julie told The Telegraph. “When Street View first launched, they didn’t blur out faces, but there was no need to with him—he was covered by a cloud of smoke anyway.”

The British newspaper reports that Mrs. Ryding first became suspicious that her husband was not sticking to his new, healthy lifestyle when she found cookie wrappers in his car. Mr. Ryding responded by warning other husbands forced into healthier habits to be more careful with their cookie wrappers.

You have been warned, gentlemen.
