According to rumors, the four-cylinder Camaro could become available with the 1LE Performance Package

The 2017 Camaro 1LE was the talk of the town at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show

In the official press release from Chevy, it was announced the 1LE performance package will become available for 2017 Camaros equipped with either the V6 or V8 engine options, but new information has revealed the four-cylinder version could also be getting the same treatment.

Lead Camaro Engineer Al Oppenheiser was on hand at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show and GM Authority asked him if the turbo-four Camaro could ever receive the same type of performance package.

“I’ll give you that answer by saying a surprising number of components are shared between the V6 and turbo-four, so the opportunity is there,” he said. “And, to be honest with you, I would much rather have our four-cylinder customers buying performance parts out of our performance catalog or even buy something straight from the factory versus buying aftermarket parts.”

The 1LE performance package offers increased handling and tack performance for the 2017 V6-equipped Camaros, by means of a fine-tuned suspension, Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, and high-performance Brembo brakes. The package also offers Recaro seats and a performance data recorder. Furthermore, the package available for the 2017 Camaro 1SS includes electronic slip differential.

The 2016 Chevy Camaro 1LT comes straight from the factory with a 275 horsepower turbo-four engine and carries a starting MSRP of $25,700.

If the 1LE performance package does in fact become available on four-cylinder models, then this could become a very exciting time for those people in the market for an affordable pony car.
