Ford Go Detroit Challenge

Ford this week announced the winners of its Go Detroit Challenge at its Grand Final in the Motor City. A panel of judges—consisting of Brad Coulter, Matrix Human Services; Ted Serbinski, Techstars Mobility; Cortnie Squirewell, Ford Fund; Chris Thomas, Fontinalis; Pam Lewis, New Economy Initiative; Smita Khare, Ford Smart Mobility; and Jon Coleman, Ford Smart Mobility—listened to the finalists’ pitches in front of a live audience before doling out $60,000 in prize money.

From the outset, more than 1,000 people were involved in the Go Detroit Challenge, which sought to address mobility challenges faced by Detroit residents. The more than 160 ideas generated by the challenge were pared down to six social entrepreneur finalists and six app developer finalists.

The winner of the Devpost Popular Choice award was Marauder mApp V2, which allows commuters to provide friends with their up-to-date location. The first-place winner in the social entrepreneur category is Cart, standing for Convenient Affordable Reliable Transportation, which aims to provide use ride-sharing services and grocery stores to provide better access to food for people who need it. The first-place finisher in the app developer category was Aired.IO, a web app that utilizes a chatbot to guide commuters to their destinations more safely.

“By listening to people and responding to what they need, we can have dramatic impacts on their lives,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman, Ford Motor Company. “We are committed to developing mobility solutions that make people’s lives better, and we have focused on access and transportation issues in our own backyard that will help us bring real solutions to Detroit.”
