For the third year running, Lexus and the Weinstein Company have worked together to present the Lexus Short Film Series competition. Thousands of submissions have been sent in since applications opened in July. Filmmakers were asked to send a resume and a short film to be entered for the chance to become a finalist. Four finalists have been chosen from the pool of applicants, and will be given backing to produce a short film to accompany this year’s theme of “Anticipation”.

Finalist Alexis Michalik of France is an actor and filmmaker, and Byoung-Gon Moon of South Korea had a short film win the Palme d’Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.  Pippa Bianco of the United States is a Yale graduate with films featured at SXSW and the Telluride festival. Finally, Damian Walshe-Howling of Australia is an AFI Award winner for Best Supporting Actor whose short films have been screened around the world. As you can see, these finalists aren’t students fresh out of their degree programs. Each finalist brings to the table a wealth of expeience and knowledge of what it takes for a film to be successful on a global stage, just like Lexus and The Weinstein Company.

Executive Vice President of Lexus International, Mark Templin, said “Lexus strives to create unforgettable experiences and from the submissions we’ve reviewed, the filmmaking community clearly shares this same passion. It has been incredible discovering these filmmakers’ creativity in storytelling and we look forward to seeing the four final short films in 2016.”

We can’t wait to see the finished short films. They are scheduled to be shown in June in 2016.
