Argentina vs. Switzerland

In today’s Argentina vs. Switzerland World Cup match, we’ll see the two countries go head-to-head and leave it all on the field. But the countries are also putting the pedal to the metal in our World Cup of Cars series, where we take a popular car from each country and allow them to face off.

Representing Argentina is the Fiat Palio, a supermini car that has been in production since 1996. The Palio is currently offered in three trims—Attractive, Essence, and Sporting. While its small engines provide a fair amount of power (for its size), the Palio is severely lacking in safety: after all, some airbags are optional, or not offered in any way.

Meanwhile, the Toyota Auris heads up the Switzerland team. Neither the Palio nor the Auris is manufactured in the countries that they represent, but the Auris, like the Palio, is incredibly popular in its team’s country—and with good reason. The versatile car is offered with diesel and hybrid variants, and it is much safer than the Palio, with features such as a Supplemental Restraint System and Hill-start Assist Control.

The Palio is too unpredictable in terms of safety for our tastes, so we’re going to have to give the Argentina vs. Switzerland victory to the Auris and Switzerland.
