It turns out that the biggest choke artist of the 2014 MLB Postseason was not Clayton Kershaw or Mike Trout, but rather the poor, overwhelmed Chevy rep who was tasked with presenting World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner with his free 2015 Chevrolet Colorado.

If you threw your remote through your television in disgust and shouted “IT’S NOT FAIR, DAMN IT!” after the San Francisco Giants defeated the loveable underdog Kansas City Royals, you may have missed the post-game celebrations. That’s a shame, because you also missed out on one of the most hilariously cringe-inducing live television moments in recent memory, as a stuttering and heavy breathing Chevrolet executive named Rikk Wilde tried and failed to tell Giants pitching ace Madison Bumgarner all about the Chevy Colorado’s innovative “technology and stuff.”

“Um, it combines class-winning and leading, um [pregnant pause]… y’know, technology and stuff,” Wilde sputtered hopelessly, while sweating more profusely than the man standing right next to him who had just pitched five scoreless innings in the World Series.

Looking at your notes and pausing for long intervals in the middle of a sentence is never the best tactic for a public speaker to employ, but if you are going to lean on that crutch, you should probably be able to come up with a better phrase than “technology and stuff.”

What could have made Wilde so nervous? Is he a huge baseball fan who is starstruck by meeting the greatest pitcher in World Series history? Is he just breathing that heavily because he had to run all the way from his seats in the upper deck outfield bleachers of Kauffman Stadium to the winning team’s locker room to talk about the Chevy Colorado? Did no one tell him there would be cameras until three minutes before it was time to present the award? Did no one tell him that the Chevy Colorado existed until three minutes before it was time to present the award?

For all we know, it could have been all or none of those reasons. The only thing that is certain is that Rikk Wilde (or “#ChevyGuy,” as he is now being called on twitter) has replaced Marlins Man as the breakout star of the 2014 MLB Postseason.
