Your Daily US Honda Civic Type R Rumor
Because Honda has made us wait so long for the European-spec production model of the Civic Type R hot hatch, we’ve had plenty of time to speculate on whether or not an American version will ever materialize.
In December, there were serious rumors that a US Honda Civic Type R model was in the works, which prompted a non-committal response from the Japanese automaker. The Type R’s also been spotted being tested here in the States, although that doesn’t mean that it’s here to stay.
So, what’s the latest development in the ongoing will-they-won’t-they relationship between the United States and the Civic Type R? Well, yesterday Honda released another teaser video for the European Type R, which a Honda dealer in New Jersey then posted to Facebook with the caption “Coming 02.03.015 here at Sussex Honda!” A Jalopnik reader noticed the post and got this screenshot:

Today, though, the dealership seems to have backed off on the claim:

So, did the dealership let something slip yesterday, and now they’re walking it back? Or did they have no idea what they were talking about, and are trying to save face by saying today that they’re only, “Keeping our fingers crossed for a U.S. version?”
We just don’t know, folks. We just don’t know.
