This incident happened at the John J. Murphy Elementary School in Round Lake, IL, on the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 9.
The young girl driving was able to pull up and park the car in a busy drop-off area without hitting any vehicles.
Law enforcement was as astonished as the teachers who witnessed the whole thing.
Nothing is More Astonishing: Than these limited edition Mitsubishi models
“We don’t know how big she was,” Round Lake Police Chief George Filenko told ABC 7 Chicago. “We’re not even quite sure how she reached the pedals.”
It gets more bizarre from there as a nine-year-old student hopped out of the back seat. Once the child left the car, the adult slid over to the driver side and drove off.
Drive Off: In one of the highly efficient crossovers from Mitsubishi
Police are still looking for the adult driver who they have identified as 31-year-old Khafilu Oshodi. While he is related to the children, he has since disappeared after the incident.
Oshodi has a suspended driver’s license, and the car he drove was a stolen vehicle.
Driving was the last thing on my mind when I was 11 years old. Parallel parking is a disaster in the making for me, so this young girl’s operation of a vehicle in a busy school parking lot — while wrong —is nothing short of impressive.
