The 2013 Honda Insight boasts a strong visual profile, with its wedge-like shape and fastback roofline and a stylish split-glass window to wrap up the rear. At the front, the grille and headlight feature cool blue lighting carried over from last year’s model. The 2013 model, however, includes bumper, headlight, and grille revisions that help it gain an additional 2 percent aerodynamic efficiency.

The 2013 Honda Insight is powered by Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist system: a 1.3-liter SOHC four-cylinder gasoline engine, complete with i-VTEC variable valve timing, paired with a 10-kilowatt electric motor. Together, they produce 98 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque via a continuously variable transmission (CVT), with paddle shifters on the EX model. The nickel-metal hydride battery pack recaptures and stores energy from vehicle braking and deceleration which can be converted into boost to help acceleration.

The EPA rates the 2013 Honda Insight’s fuel economy at 41 mpg city/44 mpg highway and 42 mpg combined.

The 2013 Honda Insight interior features handsome cloth upholstery on the LX trim and graceful leather-and-cloth on the EX. The design is modern and practical, with functional and futuristic instrumentation that helps encourage fuel economy—for example, the Assist/Charge meter shows current flow to and from the battery, Eco Assist changes the cluster background colors depending on efficiency, and the ECON button modifies throttle, CVT, A/C, and idle-stop duration to improve fuel economy.

The 2013 Honda Insight comes standard with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. It was named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for receiving the highest score of “Good” in all crash categories.
