What’s New for the 2014 Lexus LS Hybrid

For the 2014 model year, the Lexus LS Hybrid now comes standard with Siri Eyes Free compatibility, improved access to the trunk, and a few minor trim revisions.

Aerodynamics is important when designing a hybrid vehicle and the 2014 Lexus LS Hybrid reflects that. Gorgeously chiseled lines and rounded curves come together to make the hybrid car a sleek machine, easily cutting through the air. The blue touches on the Lexus badges let’s everyone know that it’s a hybrid, while the dual exhaust pipes add a nice touch of sportiness to the sedan.

To power the hybrid, a 5.0-liter V8 combines with two electric motor/generators to produces 438 horsepower. One of the electric motors acts as a primary generator and engine starting, while the other powers the rear wheels and creates even more power through regenerative braking. All-wheel-drive is standard along with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

EPA-estimated fuel economy for this hybrid is a bit on the lower end at 20 mpg combined.

Luxury is abundant throughout the LS Hybrid’s cabin, with Lexus best leather being the standard upholstery and rich wood trim adding an elegant touch to the sleek, modern design. An optional Executive package even offers the right rear passenger his own ottoman. You wouldn’t think there could be any more luxury than that until you check out the Remote Touch electronics interface. A mouse-like device allows the use to navigate the 12.3-inch display with ease, providing access to navigation and audio controls. While cargo space is limited, the rear seat makes up for it, becoming its own oasis with a rear climate control system and onboard refrigerator making it likely that people won’t be calling “Shotgun!” anytime soon.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the LS Hybrid received the highest possible rating of “Good” in the moderate-overlap frontal-offset crash test and whiplash protection in rear impacts test. Standard safety features include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, a multitude of airbags, a blind-spot monitoring system with cross-traffic alerts, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive headlights, automatic high beams, a rearview camera and Lexus’ Safety Connect emergency telematics.
