Not a whole bunch, but definitely a few things worth noting! First of all, the 2015 Sonic loses three color options—Deep Magenta Metallic, Cool Blue, and Blue Topaz Metallic—and gains one—Blue Velvet Metallic. Speaking of color, the 2015 Sonic is available with the Dragon Green Promotional Package, which includes Dragon Green Metallic paint, 16-inch painted aluminum wheels, foglamps, and a power sunroof.

In addition to these color changes, the 2015 Sonic also comes with OnStar Generation 10 hardware, whose main feature of interest is the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.

As with previous years, the 2015 Chevy Sonic is available either as a sedan or a hatchback. The two vehicles are identical from the front, and the differences happen once you get past the center pillar. The sedan’s back doors feature traditional handles, while the hatchback’s come with handles hidden in black trim, which almost gives it a coupe-like feel.

Other notable features on the Sonic’s exterior include aluminum-alloy wheels on all but the base LS model, and a range of wild and wonderful color choices.

Motorcycle-style gauges

The 2015 Chevy Sonic is offered with a choice between two engines—the base 1.8-liter four cylinder, and the optional turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder. The two engines are fairly similar, with the former having a power rating of 138 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque, and the latter a power rating of 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. The base engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission, while the turbocharged offering has a six-speed manual. Both are available with six-speed automatic transmissions.

As with most subcompact cars, the 2015 Chevy Sonic is front-wheel drive.

When you get a small car, you expect to get impressive fuel economy, and the 2015 Sonic doesn’t disappoint. The base engine gets 26 mpg city and 35 mpg highway when paired with the manual transmission, and 25/35 city/highway with the automatic. The turbocharged version is comparable, getting 27/34 mpg city/highway in the manual, and 25/33 mpg city/highway in the automatic.

Inside the 2015 Chevy Sonic

For a small car, the 2015 Sonic sure boasts plenty of room on the inside. The rear seat in particular is one of the roomiest you’ll find in this segment, meaning you’ll have happy friends, kids, or whoever else happens to ride back there.

The Sonic’s interior design stands out, with a motorcycle-inspired gauge cluster and a dual glovebox that features a USB port in the upper half. Additionally, Chevrolet MyLink and SiriusXM Satellite Radio are available as either an option or a standard feature on all models save the base LS.

Seating trim ranges from sport cloth in the LS, deluxe cloth in the LT, and perforated leatherette in the LTZ. Other features include remote keyless entry, a sport steering wheel, and heated front seats in the upper trim levels.

You might think that subcompact cars aren’t particularly safe, but the Sonic is here to prove you wrong. It comes with 10 standard airbags, including knee airbags for driver and front passenger, roof-rail head curtain airbags, dual-stage frontal airbags, and seat-mounted thorax side airbags. Additional standard safety features include brake assist, daytime running lamps, traction and stability control, and a tire pressure monitor system.

Optional safety extras include a rear vision camera, lane departure warning, and forward collision alert. These recommended technologies helped the Sonic earn a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA.
