2015 Corvette Z06 Horsepower May Have Been Undersold
The official 2015 Corvette Z06 horsepower rating has been advertised as 650 hp. Incredible? Yes. Groundbreaking? You bet. Totally accurate? Maybe not. And in a good way.
When the gearheads at Vengeance Racing, a performance tuning company, took delivery of their new Corvette Z06, they did what any performance enthusiasts would do: they did some burnouts right there in the parking lot. Shortly after, however, they got down to business and put the Z06 through dyno testing. What they recorded was something they had not expected.
They recorded the Z06 at 585 hp at the wheels. GM’s estimate of 650 is at the crank, and there is typically a 15% driveline loss at the wheels. Assuming that 15% stands in the Z06’s case, that could mean a whopping 688 hp out of the Z06, rather than 650.
General Motors has under-represented performance numbers before. We’re not sure what the deal is, but imagining even more power out of the Z06 is almost impossible. Hats off to the engineers with the Bowtie Brand. A job well done.
