The 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
Although you probably associate Hyundai with small, budget-friendly (yet still fun-to-drive) cars like the Veloster or Sonata, the automaker offers a few higher-end performance models you might not be as familiar with. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe, for example, combines rear-wheel drive with available features like Brembo brakes for a whopping 348 horsepower. Now, according to a report from Asian car news site Motoring Crunch, the next Hyundai Genesis Coupe might be about to get even more impressive, thanks to some serious upgrades.
The upgrades in question will reportedly be taken from the HND-9 full-size coupe concept, which debuted at the 2013 Seoul Motor Show. The HND-9 concept measures 2.5 inches longer than the current Genesis Coupe, an inch wider, and 1.7 inches lower. The most notable feature that could carry over into the next Hyundai Genesis Coupe, however, is the HND-9’s 3.3-liter Lambda V6 engine which delivers a powerful 365 horsepower via an eight-speed torque-converter automatic. This would increase the current Genesis’ power by 17 hp, which might not sound like much, but can help deliver that extra kick when you need it most.
Motoring Crunch is touting the next Hyundai Genesis Coupe as Korea’s first super car, but given that the Equus boasts a 429-hp V8 engine (although admittedly housed in a vanilla sedan rather than a sleek coupe body style), that claim might be a bit much. Even so, there’s no denying that a 365-hp Genesis Coupe would be a car designed with the enthusiast in mind.
