The little Mitsubishi Mirage is making quite a name for itself in the US, earning multiple awards and breaking sales records, breathing new life in to Mitsubishi’s North American business operations. The latest award for the subcompact car is the honor of being named in the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy’s “Greenest Vehicles” list.
The Mirage is the only non-hybrid or electric vehicle to make the list this year, which makes sense since it holds the title of most fuel-efficient non-hybrid new car in the US. With an astounding 40 mpg combined, the Mirage achieves 37 mpg in the city and up to 44 mpg on the highway thanks to its 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine. Starting at $12,995, it’s an affordable way for people to drive efficiently on their daily commute without paying extra for an expensive hybrid.
Don Swearingen, Executive VP of Mitsubishi Motors North America, said, “With its low price, plentiful features, exceptional fuel economy and extensive warranty, the Mitsubishi Mirage offers automotive consumers an unprecedented new-car value.”
In January, the subcompact Mirage enjoyed its best sales month ever since it joined the US market in 2013. The Mirage was also recognized in the latest IHS Automotive Loyalty Awards, which found that Mirage owners were more likely to buy another Mitsubishi than owners of any other car in the subcompact class.
It’s only February and the Mirage is already having a great year, so we’re excited to see how well it does in the next few months.
