2015 Yukon Denali Transmission Gets Severe Updates
Welcome to a new kind of Denali with the all-new 2015 Yukon Denali transmission. Gone are the days of the Yukon Denali’s six-speed automatic gearbox. Now, the Yukon Denali’s 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine is paired to GM’s new Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission. The Yukon XL Denali also benefits from this change.
The 2015 Yukon Denali transmission means an increase in horsepower, torque, and highway fuel economy ratings. In fact, the Yukon Denali now leads (or ties) several competitors in all three categories, including the Infiniti QX80, the Lincoln Navigator, and the Toyota Sequoia Platinum.
With the new transmission, the Yukon Denali delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The SUV also manages 22 mpg on the highway with four-wheel drive and 21 mpg on the highway with two-wheel drive. In addition, the transmission allows for smaller steps between gears than the previous transmission for the Yukon Denali. Tow ratings are unaffected.
It’s not just the Yukon Denail’s transmission that’s been updated, however. The model also benefits from a number of new technology upgrades. Among them are the hands-free power liftgate, a wireless phone charging surface, OnStar with 4G LTE, and an improved IntelliLink system.
