There was a lot of competition this year for Motor Authority’s annual Best Car to Buy award, as the website also nominated the likes of the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S for the prestigious title, but in the end, it was the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS that took home the Best Car to Buy award.

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS features a 6.2-liter V8 engine and a standard six-speed manual transmission, which combine to produce 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. Consumers can also opt for the available eight-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro SS can rocket from 0 to 60 mph in just four seconds and it can conquer the quarter mile in only 12.3 seconds.

The Alpha platform used for the Cadillac ATS is also featured in the new Chevy Camaro SS and this year’s Camaro is more than 200 pounds lighter than the outgoing model. The 2016 Camaro also features a more compact cabin than last year’s version.

Kirk Bell of Motor Authority specifically mentioned how impressed he was by the handling of the 2016 Camaro SS. He described its steering as both “sharp” and “true.”

“It’s time to stop calling the Camaro a pony car, time to stop calling it a muscle car. Those are ancient ways of describing exactly what the Camaro is,” says Bell. “In its latest iteration, the Camaro SS is one of the most capable, pavement-melting, mind-bending performance cars on the road.”

The 2016 Camaro SS joins the likes of the Porsche 911, Mercedes-CLA45 AMG, and Alfa Romeo 4C as winners of Motor Authority’s yearly Best Car to Buy award.

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS features a starting MSRP of $37,295.
