2016 Hyundai Elantra Overview

Over the past years, the Hyundai Elantra has quickly become one of the most popular value cars on the market. With its combination of quality and affordability, the Korean model easily stands against its competitors in the compact segment.  While its two-door option isn’t offered anymore, its recognizable four-door configuration remains the same.

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra comes in four different trim options: SE, Value Edition, Sport, and Limited. Manual transmission comes standard for SE and Sport while all four trims have automatic offered.

What’s New for the 2016 Hyundai Elantra?

Because the Hyundai Elantra will be getting a next-generation redesign for the 2017 model year, this year’s model hasn’t received much attention in the way of improvements. The Value Edition trim is new, however, and it takes some of the features away from the SE version. The Limited trim gets a bit nicer with standard keyless entry/ignition and automatic climate control. The Sport version no longer touts leather seats.

Otherwise, little else has changed for the 2016 Hyundai Elantra.

2016 Hyundai Elantra Exterior

The front front fascia of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra remains the same recognizable grin it has been for the past years. Little has changed in its appearance, still employing the arcing lines which converge at the front grille. The base trims come with 15-inch alloy wheels which can be upgraded to 16- or 17-inch sets on different trims.

2016 Hyundai Elantra Performance

The SE, Value Edition, and Limited trims–which run off the same 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission (or manual for SE)–produce 145 horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the Sport trim’s 2.0-liter engine that comes in automatic or manual can achieve 173 horsepower and 153 lb-ft of torque.

Acceleration is a bit slow for its segment, clocking in at 0-to-60 in 9.7 seconds (Limited) and 8.2 seconds (Sport).

2016 Hyundai Elantra Efficiency

The SE and Value Edition Elantras gather 28 mpg city/38 mpg highway/32 mpg combined. A step lower is the Limited version, getting 27 mpg city/37 mpg highway/31 mpg combined. Lastly, the Sport engine reaches 24 mpg city/34 mpg highway/28 mpg combined.

The inside of the 2016 Elantra features plenty of amenities depending on which trim you choose. The controls are well-organized and easy to reach. There’s plenty of legroom in the cabin, especially the backseat,  and the trunk has a hefty 14.8-cubic feet of space. The cabin design is sleek and curvy, much like the exterior of the vehicle.

2016 Hyundai Elantra Safety

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra received the top five-star safety rating in government crash tests and an “Acceptable” rating from the Institute for Highway Safety.
