What’s New for the 2016 Ram 1500
The 2016 Ram 1500 carries over with a few minor exterior changes, including a split tailgate that swings open horizontally like a door, but can also move up and down. The Pentastar, Hemi, and EcoDiesel engines also receive some updates, such as an increase in the EcoDiesel’s maximum towing capacity.
The 2016 Ram 1500 is available in 14 trims: Tradesman®, Express®, HFE, SLT, Lone Star, Big Horn, Sport, Tradesman HFE, Express HFE, Laramie, Outdoorsman, Rebel, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited.

2016 Ram 1500 Performance
For the 2016 model year, the Ram 1500 comes with three engine options. The 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine offers 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. It also achieves has a towing capability of 9,210 pounds. The 3.6-liter V6 engine churns out 306 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, while offering 7,610 pounds of towing capability. Finally the 5.7-liter V8 HEMI engine gets 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque with an outstanding 10,650 pounds of towing capacity.
Each engine is equipped with a Torqueflite eight-speed transmission, which can send power to either the 4×2 or 4×4 drive system.

2016 Ram 1500 Efficiency
For the 2016 Ram 1500, the fuel efficiency varies. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine gets 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine gets 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, while the more powerful 5.2-liter HEMI V8 gets slightly lower numbers with 15 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.
