What’s New for the 2016 Subaru WRX

Though the Subaru WRX hasn’t undergone any major redesigns or refreshes for the 2016 model year, it does see quite a few updates. For starters, it gets Subaru’s EyeSight crash prevention system, and just in time for some updates to the system itself. This year, EyeSight adds Steering-Responsive Fog Lights to its suite of features, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Braking, Blind-Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. In addition, the WRX will benefit from Subaru’s STARLINK touchscreen system. Finally, Suabru will also offer Series.HyperBlue Limited Edition models for the WRX STI, with late availability.

The 2016 Subaru WRX will be available in five trim levels: WRX, Premium, Limited, STI, and STI Limited.

2016 Subaru WRX Performance

Under the hood of the WRX, the WRX Premium, and the WRX Limited lurks a 2.0-liter DOHC turbocharged engine, mated to a fully-synchronized six-speed manual transmission. (Premium and Limited are available with a Sport Lineartronic transmission with paddle shifters.) This dynamic powertrain is good for 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The WRX STI and the WRX STI Limited are motivated by something a little more powerful: a 2.5-liter DOHC turbocharged engine. The engine is paired with a fully-synchronized six-speed manual transmission. Power is increased to 305 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. Subaru Intelligent Drive is standard on the STI models.

Of course, all WRX trims are built on Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive platform.
