Last year, Pu Han was named the winner of the 2018 Ford UCAN Youth Innovation Competition, which tasks young students with addressing issues related to mobility and transportation. Pu, a mere 26 years old, founded the Nanjing Zhidian Internet Technology Co, spearheading the development of a single-platform supervision system for the elevator industry. That same spirit of innovation has earned Pu Han a spot on this year’s Forbes 30 Under 30 China list, placing him among 600 entrepreneurs and innovators.

Pu is a graduate student at the Nanjing University of Technology. His creation is an elevator maintenance solution, developed independently with a team of his peers, that monitors real-time operation to find issues with elevators. Whenever something goes awry, the system creates an alarm that isolates the cause of trouble and makes for quicker rescues and repairs.

After winning the competition, Pu took advantage of follow-up coaching to further develop the project, leading to his placement on the Forbes 30 Under 30 China list.

“I have a deep affection for UCAN, and Ford offers a great platform for young entrepreneurs to get the training opportunities and resources they need,” said Pu.

Ford continued its UCAN competition in 2019, expanding the program to include the involvement of celebrity mentors, investors, and experts. The selection process will take place on Nov. 8, where teams will be invited to the Ford UCAN Youth Innovation Competition. There, approximately US$15,500 (110,000 yuan) will be meted out to winning groups to help fund their projects. Teams will also have access to further training and resources in order to help their goals of making the world a better, safer place.
