Four Kia Models have driven away with Top Safety Pick ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Earning the TSP rating are the 2018 Kia Cadenza, 2018 Sedona, 2018 Sportage, and 2018 Sportage.
According to Kia, “To qualify for a TSP rating, a vehicle must earn ‘Good’ ratings in five crashworthiness tests—driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. It also must earn an ‘Advanced’ or ‘Superior’ rating for front crash prevention, and a ‘Good’ or ‘Acceptable’ rating in headlight testing. Ratings are also dependent on specific ‘built after’ date for each model.”
When equipped with LED Bi-Function Projection headlights and autonomous emergency braking, features available on the Limited and Technology trim levels of the 2018 Cadenza, the Cadenza is worthy of the TSP rating.
Models of the 2018 Sedona that were manufactured post May 2017, which are equipped with Xenon HID headlights with auto leveling and High-Beam Assist and autonomous emergency braking, carry the TSP rating. (The Advanced Touring package applied to the SX trim of the 2018 Cadenza will deliver the features needed to earn the high safety rating from the IIHS).
Kia reports that “2018 Sportage models built after June 2017 when equipped with Bi-xenon headlights with Dynamic Bending Light (standard on the SX Turbo trim)” get the TSP distinction.
The TSP rating applies to the 2018 Sorento models that sport HID headlights and autonomous emergency braking and were manufactured post May 2017. According to Kia, these features are available on the SXL trim or on the SX trim, when the SX model is enhanced by the SX Advanced Technology package.
