2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Earns New Award from Motor Authority
Motor Authority has just announced its Best Car to Buy 2019: the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The ZR1 outshone rivals including the Ford Mustang GT Performance Pack Level 2, Jaguar I-Pace, Audi RS 5, and the BMW M5. Motor Authority judges started the testing phase with a day at the 2.0-mile Atlanta Motorsports Park course. Next, they drove each contender on the road to evaluate its performance and driving quality off the racetrack.
The judges were impressed with the sheer force and speed of the ZR1, as they articulated. “We were overwhelmed by [its] prodigious power […] but found it even more capable on the track and perfectly livable on the street. It’s a missile pointed relentlessly forward, and it’s capable of amazing speed in skilled hands.”
Affordable price was another factor in the judges’ decision. The 2019 ZR1 has a base MSRP of $121,000. That’s considerably lower than the four contenders it competed against in the Motor Authority tests. Its small-block LT5 incorporates a supercharger that dishes out 52-percent more displacement while generating 715 lb-ft of torque and 755 horsepower.

Managing editor Aaron Cole praised the ZR1 for its superior downforce. He referred to the vehicle as a “hairy-chested dare machine.” Other judges commented on the laid-back driving experience they had when they took it on the highway.
