Honda has brought back the Passport SUV and already the all-new model is receiving glowing industry praise. The Passport was just named the “Best New Car for 2019” by Autotrader, one of just 12 new vehicles to receive the honor, and chosen by unanimous decision by the editors.
“The Passport is one of the few SUVs where the ‘sport’ and ‘utility’ totally and tangibly make sense in the same vehicle,” said Brian Moody, Autotrader executive editor. “We like the Passport because of its rugged look and just the way it comes off looking like a younger, feistier version of the Honda Pilot.”
Launched in the United States on Feb. 4, 2019, the all-new 2019 Honda Passport delivers best-in-class interior space in the midsize two-row SUV segment while striving to combine refined on-road driving with capable off-road adventuring.

This is not an easy balance to strike but, according to Autotrader, one that the Passport manages better than its competition. This is an impressive feat given that just about all the major automakers are bolstering their crossover and SUV lineups to offer as many as five or more models (Toyota alone has six, or eight if you count the hybrid variants).
“It offers a new level of off-road ruggedness that’s uncommon for Honda,” Autotrader adds. “However, it doesn’t sacrifice its road-friendliness as it still has roomy seats, a handsome interior and lots of advanced safety tech available.”
The 2019 Honda Passport was designed and developed at Honda’s R&D center in Torrance, California, and is built alongside the Pilot SUV, Odyssey minivan, and Ridgeline pickup truck at its assembly plant in Lincoln, Alabama.
