The Encore’s bigger sibling, the 2020 Encore GX, is finally coming to the American market. Here’s a look at what’s inside this bigger, better SUV.

Find Your Perfect Fit: SUVs for different life stages

What’s New

The 2020 Buick Encore GX is a new model that slots between the classic Encore and the Envision. It won’t replace the pre-existing Encore model — it just offers you choice with more space and a bit more refinement.

Exterior

The Encore GX boasts a familiar appearance. It’s loaded with conveniences like heated power outside mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators, LED Daytime Running Lamps, and available Rainsense™ automatic wipers. To carry more gear for weekend getaways, choose the roof rack cross rails. They’re perfect for hauling a canoe, kayak, skis, snowboards, bikes, or extra luggage.

Interior

Inside, the Encore GX borrows many features from its older sibling. However, it’s 5 cubic feet larger than the current Encore and 3 cubic feet smaller than the Envision. Although full details haven’t been released, the Encore GX will probably boast some Buick staples, including Active Noise Cancellation, Acoustic laminated glass, and a built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi® hotspot. If it’s similar to the original Encore, you’ll probably get to choose between Brandy, Shale, and Ebony leather-appointed seat trim.

Performance

The Encore GX will be packing a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, an automatic transmission, and either front- or all-wheel drive. Buick hasn’t released any specs for the new SUV’s engine, so only time will tell what kind of horsepower, torque, and efficiency ratings it has in store for us.

Safety

Like every Buick, the 2020 Encore GX will be well-equipped with high-quality safety features. It comes standard with Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Lane-Keep Assist, and Lane-Departure Warning. You can upgrade to receive a Rear Camera Mirror and a High Definition Surround Vision camera system, both of which can make maneuvering in crowded lots and tight spots far more comfortable.
