While some XT4 fans appreciate the current model for its sporty looks and efficient performance, others daydream about the new features the 2020 model will bring. Apparently, one of those exciting new perks will be an off-road mode, as Cadillac Society’s Jonathan Lopez relates.
Safety and Connectivity: Learn more about the high-tech amenities of the XT4
The new off-road mode
The addition of the off-road mode makes sense, since Cadillac has already equipped the 2019 XT4 with three different drive modes: Tour, AWD, and Sport. The new off-road mode will modify AWD torque, the Traction Control System, and the accelerator pedal response. And when the mode is turned on, an illuminated icon will appear on the instrument cluster.
Capability vs. reality
But, except for the new off-road mode, is the XT4 really built for frequent off-road trips? The model’s low stance, front overhand, and 6.7-inch ground clearance make it more suited for paved paths rather than rough ones. And considering the XT4 comes with a luxury-level price tag, it’s likely that few owners will want to risk taking it off-road.
As Lopez points out, however, this new feature indicates that Cadillac is marketing the XT4 based on its capabilities rather than its realities. In other words, the off-road mode will appeal to consumers who are buying a crossover for what it could do rather than what they’ll actually use it for.
Other XT4 news
Besides the off-road mode, Cadillac has yet to reveal any other modifications it will introduce on the 2020 XT4. However, Cadillac Society recently revealed some leaked images of the XT4 V-Series model. According to pictures, this variant will include a unique badge in the upper right-hand corner of the liftgate. It also includes quad exhaust tips that take their cue from the recently-revealed CT4-V and CT5-V performance models. And the XT4-V will likely offer more horsepower and torque for a more energetic driving experience.
