If you consider your vehicle your temple, your home away from home, your Zen garden for deep thinking and meditation after a long day at the office, you’re probably going to want to give the 2020 Ford Explorer a look. Thanks to the first-ever implementation of a dual-wall dashboard, acoustic glass, and available Active Noise Control technology, the upcoming Explorer promises to offer one of the quietest and most peaceful cabins out there.

“We’ve spent a lot of time learning about what our Explorer customers want and love in their SUV, and near the top of the list is a comfortable vehicle they can enjoy with their loved ones,” said Craig Patterson, Ford SUV marketing manager. “Whether it’s taking the family up north for the weekend or taking a date to the movies on Saturday night, a quieter interior allows them to better connect with those who are along for the journey.”

The Explorer’s new dual-wall dashboard, as the name suggests, uses two walls made of sheet-molded composite with an air-filled gap in between to separate the interior of the vehicle from engine noise and vibration. Parker Lewis — a Ford noise, vibration, and harshness engineering manager who also can’t lose — compares the innovation to an insulated mug or thermos that helps keep your drinks cold or hot.

This pairs nicely with glass that consists of two layers separated by a sheet of plastic, which helps cut out road and wind noises. Add in Active Noise Control, which is offered with the Explorer Limited Hybrid and uses microphones to detect and cancel out unwanted noise, and the Explorer is a pretty perfect proposition for people who prioritize peace of mind.
