Although it debuted back in 2019 at the Los Angeles International Auto Show, the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible is finally coming to the Great White North. Here’s a look at what it brings to the table.

Ride quality and performance

Under the hood, the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible boasts a 471-horsepower naturally aspirated V8 engine. It channels 398 lb-ft of torque through a Direct-Shift 10-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of the driving experience it provides, the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible behaves more like a luxury vehicle than its performance-car looks suggest. According to Michael Simari, a reviewer at Car and Driver, the model is more of a high-class grand tourer than an agile sports car.

Currently, Canada isn’t slated to receive the model’s hybrid variant. But that’s no big loss to Canadian drivers — the hybrid variant doesn’t pack the same punch as its V8 counterpart.

Interior amenities

While this model is technically a four-seater, its backseat passenger area will be a tight squeeze for most adults. It’s best suited to purses, duffle bags, and briefcases. While kids and small dogs may have enough room to stretch their legs, expect your taller friends to be calling shotgun.

That said, nobody buys a convertible to be a family hauler. What it lacks in space, it makes up for in quality and technology. The LC 500 Convertible comes standard with a 10.3-inch display, smartphone connectivity, embedded navigation, and an in-vehicle hotspot. In terms of comfort features, every LC 500 Convertible comes standard with heated and ventilated front seats and a semi-aniline leather-trimmed interior, available in Black, Circuit Red, and Toasted Caramel.

A small number of Canadian drivers will have a chance to drive home in a 2021 LC Convertible Inspiration Series. This exclusive model boasts a Structural Blue exterior, a Marine blue top, 21-inch forged alloy wheels, and a Bespoke Amalfi White semi-aniline leather interior. It also comes with a rear performance rod with a damper and a limited-slip rear differential.

Smart and Sophisticated: The 2020 Lexus ES is one seriously stylish sedan

Expect the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible to arrive on Canadian dealership lots by late summer 2020 with an MSRP starting at $122,500 CAD.
