Smolen-Gulf

Touted as the longest covered bridge in America, this bridge measures 613 feet and spans the Ashtabula River. It has a Pratt Truss style of design. John Smolen and Timothy Martin collaborated on the project. The bridge finished completion in 2008. Though not as old as some of Ohio’s other covered bridges, it’s still worth seeing due to its nationally-recognized length

Bridge of Dreams

Knox County boasts the second longest covered bridge in the state. The Bridge of Dreams spans 370 feet and straddles the Mohican State Scenic River. Built on the abandoned CA&C Railroad Line, it was later converted into a pedestrian bridge in 1998. The bridge gets its name from the fact that residents thought the conversion was just a “pipe dream” instead of a practical plan.

Everett

Built in the 19th century, the Everett covered bridge has a storied and haunted legacy. Historically, it played a key role in the Ohio & Erie Canal transportation system.

However, some claim the bridge is haunted. This reputation is mainly due to the unique circumstances of Everett Road’s construction. While building the road, construction workers uncovered a Native American burial mound. They kept building the road, however, disregarding the sacredness of the site.

While covered bridges make fascinating pit stops, so do these unusual attractions in Ohio. And, if you need some help planning your next Ohio road trip, check out this article here
