Toyota Teams Up with Navy, Marines & Coast Guard to Build Bicycles for Children

Like many leaders in the industry, Toyota is committed to rebranding itself as a mobility company rather than just a traditional auto manufacturer, and that means taking on new tasks and responsibilities that expand beyond the usual realm of automobiles.

This week, Toyota volunteers teamed up with members of the Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Navy to help provide bicycles and tricycles to the children of members of the Armed Forces, as part of the tenth annual Operation That’s My Ride sponsored by the United Service Organizations (USO).

Alongside service members, a team of Toyota volunteers assembled several hundred bikes for military kids—boys and girls—aged two to eight. This took place at the USS Kearsage, the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship that was docked at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on the Hudson River as part of the 29th annual Fleet Week New York.

All of the bikes will be delivered to military families around the nation along with helmets and safety equipment to ensure children also learn the basics of safety as they enjoy riding their new bicycles and tricycles.

Fleet Week New York is a celebration of the Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Navy that gives the citizens of the New York tri-state area a unique opportunity to discover first-hand the amazing capabilities of the United States’ maritime services. It also gives them a chance to meet the Marines, sailors, and coast guardsmen that help protect and maintain our waters. Up to 5,000 service members are expected to participate this year alone.
