Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) sold 215,348 units in March, which was 4.9 percent better than sales of a year ago. Toyota’s March Sales make them the number one retail manufacturer once again after it took home the top brand standing for all of 2013 and through the first two months of the year.

186,755 of these units were Toyota division vehicles; the Camry led the way with 41,953 units sold and a 15.7 year-over-year increase. The RAV4 and Highlander stayed strong after carrying Toyota through a blustery February, posting sales increases of 24.4 percent and 18.7 percent, respectfully.

Other Toyota division success stories included the FJ Cruiser (101.7 percent year-over-year increase), 4Runner (59.1 percent increase), and Tundra (29.8 percent increase).

The Lexus brand was also a huge winner after posting sales of 28,593 units, which marks a 23.3 percent year-over-year raw volume sales increase. The Lexus GX was up 152.7 percent, the IS was up 125 percent, and the GS improved by 37 percent. All told, Lexus’ total sales are up nearly 15 percent in the first quarter of 2014 when compared to the same period of time last year.

“Solid March sales pushed first-quarter industry results ahead of last year’s pace despite one of the harshest winters on record,” said Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager, in a press release. “Toyota dealers had their two best sales weekends of the year late in the month, and we’re optimistic that momentum will spring us into April.”

With Toyota’s March sales giving them the inside track for top-brand dominance in 2014, do you believe they will finish out the year atop the heap? If not, who do you believe is primed to knock them off of the mountain top?
