Performance

As you might have guessed, the smallest of the three (the Trax) gets the best mileage while the largest of the three (the Traverse) delivers the most power. The 1.4-liter engine on the Trax outputs 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque when equipped with front-wheel drive. However, it achieves 33 mpg on the highway, to save you money at the pump. The Equinox’s slightly more potent 1.5-liter engine outputs 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. It achieves 1 mpg less on the highway (32). The Traverse comes with a 3.6-liter engine underneath the hood which churns out 305 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. It gets only 27 mpg on the highway.

However, all three come standard with technology amenities such as Bluetooth and navigation, while certain trims offer available perks such as satellite radio.

Price

The Trax is the most affordable choice, with a starting MSRP of $21,945. The Equinox comes in second with a starting MSRP of $24,575, while the Traverse is the priciest of the three, starting at $30,925.

Conclusion: If you value affordability and efficiency, but can sacrifice interior capacity, go with the Trax. If you need a more spacious commuter to transport up to five people, go with the Equinox, which still offers competent mileage. If you’re searching for an SUV that can transport up to eight passengers while offering the most force and cargo space, opt for the Traverse.
