2019 Honda Passport Production Underway in Alabama
Honda is not wasting any time bringing its all-new Passport SUV to the people. Earlier this month, 2019 Honda Passport production kicked off at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama in anticipation of the new SUV’s arrival next year. The 2019 Passport was revealed in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show and will slot between Honda’s CR-V and Pilot in its lineup.
“Today, we celebrate the dedication of our Honda team in Alabama in delivering this new, adventure-ready sport utility vehicle to our customers,” said Mike Oatridge, vice president of HMA, at an event commemorating the Dec. 6 production kickoff. “I congratulate all of our associates for their commitment to our customers as we begin production of the new Passport, which is Honda’s most rugged light truck model with features that deliver more of what today’s adventurous customers want and need.”

Honda’s new five-passenger SUV was co-developed by Honda’s North America R&D teams in Torrance, California, and Raymond, Ohio. The final product is as capable for off-road travel as it is day-to-day commuting thanks to a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine with i-VTEC; available Intelligent Variable Torque Management torque-vectoring all-wheel drive; and an Intelligent Traction Management system with available modes for driving on snow, mud, and sand.
The Passport offers best-in-class total interior volume and passenger space as well as a best-in-class 2.5 cubic feet of underfloor cargo capabilities. Available Honda Genuine Accessories include roof boxes, baskets, and racks that make it all the more ideal for weekend adventuring, and an available Adventure Package adds rugged features like running boards and a trailer hitch.
Honda Manufacturing of Alabama employs more than 4,500 and builds more than 340,000 vehicles and engines each year. The 2019 Honda Passport is expected to arrive in showrooms in early 2019.
