Some things just pair up perfectly — like peas and carrots, peanut butter and jelly, and of course, Corvettes and Bose stereos. Bose and Chevrolet have been working together since the 1984 C4 Corvette, and that relationship continues with the 2020 Corvette Stingray. Here’s a look at the technology that powers this heart-pounding audio system.

A Mid-Engine Masterpiece: The 2020 Corvette Stingray

The most powerful in-car sound system

The 2020 Corvette Stingray comes standard with a 10-speaker Bose sound system, but to really experience the full depth and breadth of the Bose sound system, you’ll have to opt for the 14-speaker system. That’s the most speakers Bose has ever incorporated into a two-seater.

Each speaker unit is carefully positioned to deliver optimum sound quality. You’ll find two 10-inch Nd subwoofers in each door, tuned to deliver rich, immersive bass. Across the instrument panel, you’ll find an array of 2.5-inch and 3.25-inch neodymium Bose Twiddler speakers, designed and positioned to create a broad and spacious sound stage. You’ll also find 4-inch neodymium wide-range speakers and 1-inch neodymium tweeters in each upper door. The back of the cabin boasts a pair of 5.25-inch neodymium wide-range speakers as well as three additional 3.25-inch Twiddlers.

Tobe Barksdale, the chief audio engineer for Bose Automotive Systems, explained that it was critical to get every detail right on the 2020 Corvette. “The next-generation Corvette already delivers a thrilling soundtrack, courtesy of the engine. And when it comes to adding music to the mix, the custom-engineered Bose Performance Series system brings the moving emotion you’d expect in a legendary vehicle like this,” he continued.

Discreet design

Many of these speakers aren’t immediately obvious — and that’s no mistake. For instance, the 10-inch Nd speakers are tucked away in the Corvette’s door. These speakers aren’t covered with a traditional speaker mesh, since that might irritate the driver and passenger’s legs, especially when cornering. Instead, Chevy opted to cover these speakers with a smooth, padded surface

Bose AutoPilot

With its engine revving at full throttle, the Corvette Stingray comes with a built-in soundtrack of its own. Luckily, Bose accounted for that. With Bose AutoPilot technology, you can still enjoy your favorite tunes when the engine is roaring at full blast. This innovative system uses microphones in the cabin to monitor wind and road noise, then uses that data to boost audio clarity and fidelity accordingly.
