Andy Palmer, Our Hero, Confirms Infiniti Q30 and QX30

One of the many reasons we love Nissan’s Vice President Andy Palmer: he gets the usefulness of the platform that Twitter provides. Here’s the latest gem the Gentleman Palmer has bequeathed upon us:

That’s what we’ll affectionately call a double whammy. Not only will we be getting a badass Infiniti hatchback based on the positively boffo Q30 Concept that debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, but Infiniti will also be producing their own entry into the wide-open premium compact segment. Both are scheduled to be built at Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK in Sunderland, where the Qashqai and JUKE are manufactured. Further, Palmer responds to a tweet asking about plans to expand Sunderland:

You mean we didn’t have to wade through murky language ankle-deep and instead got a relatively straightforward answer from a high-ranking executive? Yeah, we love Andy Palmer.

When Auto Blog reached out to Infiniti spokesman Stefan Weinmann about the likelihood that the recently announced assembly plant in Aguascalientes would eventually have some involvement in bringing the Infiniti Q30 and QX30 to North America, he told them that “Aguascalientes comes into play several years down the road on a future-generation premium compact model,” adding that a more detailed announcement would come “in due course.” Ah, that’s the vagueness we’ve come to know (sort of) and love (not really).
