Nissan Unveils Special Edition Midnight Opal GT-R
Nissan created the GT-R to be one of the world’s first affordable supercars. The Japanese automaker wanted to give more people the ability to drive the type of car that used be reserved for the elite few, but that doesn’t mean Nissan doesn’t value exclusivity, which was made evident when it created the 2014 Nissan GT-R ‘Midnight Opal’ Special Edition.
Nissan announced that it will only produce 100 of the Midnight Opal GT-R, and it doesn’t get much more exclusive than that. Half of those will be available for purchase in the U.S., so consider yourself lucky if you get to see one in your neighborhood, even if you find yourself thinking, ‘why does the guy who had to borrow your weed-wacker own two GT-Rs’?
The reason for this illusion is the Special Edition GT-R’s “Midnight Opal” paint job. The unique paint will change from a dark purple to a deep blue depending on how the sun hits it. The highly reflective paint was painted onto all 100 GT-Rs by hand, and is unlike anything on the road.
Nissan announced that the limited production 2014 Nissan GT-R Special Edition package will be available for $6,000 more than the premium trim of the 2014 GT-R. That brings the total price tag to $105,590, but what’s a little more than six figures when you get to drive a color-changing supercar?
