For the first time ever, all four General Motors brands—Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac—have ranked among the top 10 automakers on a new J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability List. The study looks at 2012 model year vehicles that are currently in their third year of ownership.
Buick was second only to Lexus among the 31 brands, making it the highest ranking American automaker on the list. Cadillac came in at fourth, while GMC and Chevrolet tied for tenth.
“GM’s customer-driven approach to quality and dependability is breaking through,” said Grace Lieblein, vice president of GM Global Quality. “Dependability is a top purchase consideration and key to customer loyalty. These awards reflect our commitment to provide customers with the best overall experience in the industry.”
Led by the Malibu—which finished first in the competitive Midsize Car segment—Chevy ranked higher than ever before in the new J.D. Power study. The bowtie brand also received segment awards for the Camaro (Best Midsize Sporty Car) and Silverado HD (Large Heavy Duty Pickup), while Buick was recognized for the LaCrosse (Large Car).
Like Chevy, GMC received three segment awards, for the Sierra LD (Large Light Duty Pickup), Yukon (Large SUV), and Terrain (Compact SUV).
In addition to the four GM brands, the top ten is rounded out by Toyota in third place, Honda and Porsche tied for fifth, and Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz and Scion in sixth, seventh and eighth; respectively. (If you’re curious about who finished dead last, it was Fiat that took 31st place, which implies that the old “Fix It Again, Tony” joke still has legs).
