Apple Pencils Are Interfering With Certain Key Fobs
If you own a second-generation Apple Pencil, you might have trouble with your vehicle’s key fob. According to The Drive, certain users of this version of the Apple Pencil have reported that their key fobs don’t work when they try to use it while their Apple Pencil is charging via their iPad Pro nearby.

Running interference
It turns out that the Apple Pencil 2 emits a frequency of 900 MHz or higher during the charging process, which can interfere with the lower frequency of certain key fobs. Per The Drive, European and Asian cars’ key fobs tend to emit approximately 434 MHz while North American cars’ key fobs tend to emit about 315 MHz. This results in a motorist being unable to unlock or lock their vehicle when this Apple product is powering up close by.
Though Apple refrains to mention exactly which key fobs are impacted, the easiest way to find out is if you’ve personally had trouble with your own key fob lately and happen to own an Apple Pencil 2.
Apple’s suggested solution
While Apple has yet to provide a permanent fix for the problem, the company does suggest a workaround. Store your Apple Pencil 2 in a separate location from your iPad Pro and keep your key fob from coming near the pencil.
