If you like the look of the Hyundai Veloster but wish it was more performance-driven, your day might be finally on its way.
The wild hatchback is known for its unique appearance but its moderate performance capabilities have kept it from catching on in the market. In the coming years, the Veloster will be transitioning to its next generation and undergoing a significant redesign–inside and out. Photographers have captured the next Veloster in early testing stages at a track near the Nurburgring circuit.
Looking for a Family Vehicle: These popular Hyundai SUVs put the “fun” in “functional”
The Veloster mule being tested was a Frankenstein’s creation of different colored and shaped parts fitted together in a shell. Scrutinizing the details suggests that this body isn’t the final design of the next Veloster but rather a makeshift shell for testing the chassis and new components under the hood.
Based on observations, the next-generation Veloster will have a longer wheelbase, relocated exhaust tips, bigger brake pads, and more changes that can only be speculated now. The Veloster might even become a coupe to fill the gap in Hyundai’s lineup left by the popular Genesis Coupe.
It’s also worth considering how influential Hyundai’s new N division will be on the redesign of the Veloster, including if will bestow the car with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. At least the new Veloster should be getting a 1.6-liter turbocharged block, which the current Veloster Turbo already offers.
Confirmed details about the next-gen Veloster are few, but we’re looking forward to discovering what Hyundai has in store over the next couple years of development.
